Dr Colin Rubenstein is the Executive Director of the Australia/Israel and Jewish Affairs Council (AIJAC), the Australian Jewish community's leading public affairs organization. He was a senior lecturer in politics specialising in Middle East and Public Policy areas at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia from 1975 to 1998.
Dr Rubenstein has an M.A. from the University of Melbourne and a PhD from Columbia University, New York, USA in 1973. He was appointed as the full-time Executive Director of the AIJAC in January 1999, where he has been Editorial Chairman since 1982. The AIJAC publishes a monthly magazine titled The Review, which contributes to informed discussion about the Middle East and implications for Australia and Asia.
Dr Rubenstein was a senior consultant to the Australian Institute of Multicultural Affairs from 1980-1985, a part-time member of the Victorian Multicultural Affairs Commission, 1992-1996 and a member of the Federal Government's National Multicultural Advisory Council between 1997 and 1999. He has also been a member of the Federal Government's Council for Multicultural Australia since July 2000 and a member of the Board of the National Library since 2001.
In 2007, Dr Rubenstein was appointed a member of the Order of Australia in recognition of his service to the community through executive roles with a range of Jewish organizations, to the advancement and promotion of multiculturalism and to the academic discipline of political science.
He has lectured internationally on global affairs for audiences in Washington, Beijing, Jerusalem and Bangkok, and is a frequent contributor and commentator on these topics in Australian media. He is also published widely on Middle East, Asia-Pacific Security and Public Policy issues.
